Not all heroes wear capes, but do they at least give good speeches? That’s the vibe I’ve been getting form My Hero Academia lately. Shounen anime shines in delivering that classic “coming-of-age” story, and the recent increase in mentorship has really solidified that. Todoroki and Endeavor, Deku and Gran Torino, even Bakugo is learning little by little how to be a true hero. Yet, what does that really mean?
Anime is a worldwide medium. Rising far beyond it’s miso-soaked roots in Japan, anime and otaku culture have attracted thousands of fans internationally. Old and young, rich and poor, of all genders and body shapes. Diversity doesn’t even begin to describe the community, and with that comes a variety of different tastes and opinions towards the medium. Yet despite all of this, one fact holds true: shounen anime have some dope action sequences.
It’s been a while since I’ve taken the time to blog here on Unsheathed, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been watching any anime. On the contrary, over the past couple weeks I’ve been working my way through shows like Taylor Swift works through boyfriends, and I’m definitely excited for what’ll be coming down the pipeline for you guys. In the meantime tho, here’s what I’ve been watching!
